As First independent studio and recording service, NorthStar has invested in the complete Authoring tools for producing Super Audio CD's. Northstar is now able to create all DST encoded files and disc images needed for the SA-CD pressing process in the pressing plants.

DST encoding is the lossless data packing process that optimizes the use of the available space on Super Audio CDs. This compression process is needed for stereo and multi-channel DSDIFF files.

The DST Encoder application supports:
• Fast DST encoding of 2-, 5- and 6-channel DSD masters.
• User-selectable encoding strategies for maximising the compression ratio.
• Visual feedback of the current and average DST compression ratio during the encoding process.
• Optional generation of a CRC for the encoded DSDIFF file.

SuperAuthor
Authoring is the stage where the audio data and TOC information are multiplexed and where the disc image is built. This disc image is needed for disc replication.

The SuperAuthor application supports:
• Very fast disc building process on a standard PC configuration.
• All features of the SA-CD specifications.
• Creation of Hybrid, single-layer and duallayer disc images.
• Advanced import and export functionality.
• EDL data import from DSD/DST streams.
• Text data import via SA-CD Text Master file.
• Integrated Verifier for easy verification of the disc image.
• Integrated tape library which allows distribution of the disc image on tape.

Super Audio CD Verifier
The Logical Verifi er checks the contents of the disc image for compliance to the SA-CD standard. Verification can be carried out at various stages of the disc creation process prior to the actual disc being made, for example just after authoring or just before glass mastering.

The Super Audio CD Verifier:
• Verifies disc images against the Super Audio CD specification.
• Checks for any recommendations, errors and warnings.
• Performs syntax checks as well as semantic and dynamic checks.
• Generates report files with all detected violations of the standard.
• Analyses input stream and logs contents in a clear and concise way.
• Includes file system checks.
